Thank you for this invitation. I recently read an article about how to learn to play again, in the midst of "all of this" (as you brilliantly expressed). I feel they are connected. Allowing ourselves playfulness and joy, even when things feel heavy. Especially when things feel heavy.
If we never knew pain, we'd never know joy. Love the idea of microjoys. Yesterday was a busy day at work, it had been a crazy busy week too. Part of me was focused on just getting everything done, but then everyone just took a short break and we laughed and had some fun together and just that little moment gave me enough energy to get through the rest of the day.
I loved a post earlier this week about serendipity as unplanned joy, so I have been looking for little moments of joy each day. Yesterday I arrived at Birmingham New Street in plenty of time, and spotted a stall being set up to give away kiwi fruit, complete with a spife (that is, a bright green plastic spoon incorporating a knife - you might know its cousin the spork or the runcible spoon which combines all three types of cutlery in one!) While waiting for them to set up, someone waved at me - a friend from the university department where I volunteer on a committee, who has just moved to ICE to train civil engineers. Had a lovey catch up, followed by a kiwi, and was still in good time for work! I kept the spife in my coat pocket partly because it might be useful but mainly to remind me to keep looking for unplanned moments of joy
Felt very close to this one Jillian. there is joy in every day. We just have to find it in the beautiful roses of your garden. (God I wish I could get some from you.🌝)
Thank you so much for this. I haven't had this much fun in a while. I'm Ral and it’s amazing meeting you today
How can you create or recognize joy today?

How true that is!

It’s amazing how restorative those small breaks can be.

I love this and the idea of you walking around with a spife in your pocket, Jenny!
