You are speaking my language 😀 We have a fundamental misunderstanding of rest in our society - we imagine that watching screens is restful, simply because we happen to be horizontal, when in fact our nervous system is in sensory overload - it's madness! Thanks for articulating this so clearly. For me rest is all about bringing the nervous system into a ventral vagal state, no matter what we are doing.
Ah that's such a useful way of looking at things. As someone who works a stressful job in a leadership position I feel I often need emotional or social rest, like I've done enough "peopling" for the day. And I'm very sensitive to noise so I often need sensory rest too. It's good to look at it in that way and really identify what kind of rest I need. Thanks for that!
I relate to that a lot! My job was very much emotional and sensory overload today. So I was intentional about lighting a fire, a candle, and making myself some dinner when I got home. My husband and son are away, so I also got some time in silence to decompress.
Nice, it's so important to make time for those things. Sometimes I come home and I just say to my husband "I need some loud music while I make dinner first" and then once that's done I'm ready to interact again. Oh or a hot shower always helps as well, literally wash away the stress!
This is great! 👍 So many brilliant ideas and techniques.. Thank you Jillian 🙏😊
Glad you found it useful! Is there one you need more than the others right now? For me, it is definitely sensory rest!
Thank you for recommending the podcast! So many great suggestions here
