Hi, I’m Jillian, and I’m a recovering overachiever.
At this point, I think I’ll be recovering from overachieving and overwork for the rest of my life.
However, thanks to this publication, my podcast, and a lot of personal growth work, it gets a lot easier to recognize when I need to take a break. And I have a lot less guilt about taking one.
As I’ve written about recently, I recently finished a period of working a lot in the hospital. This stretch left me feeling mentally and emotionally drained, and it has made it difficult for me to make much progress on the projects I had planned for my time away from taking care of patients (e.g. revive the podcast!).
Thanks to
’s Time to Thrive 6-week journal experience, I’ve slowly been recovering. A few days ago, I found motivation to revamp the cover art of my podcast and to re-listen to a few of the old episodes. It turns out, past me had the exact message that I needed to hear:You can do anything, not everything.
I had a hunch that you need to hear that message for yourself, so I decided to bring this episode back from the archive to share with you today.
Although I’m in a different place in my career than I was when I published the episode, I still find myself overworking and overscheduling. But I also see how I’m working to prioritize unscheduled free time for fun and enjoyment.
As we head into the holiday weekend here in the US, I hope you make time for some of that for yourself. I’m sending this post out earlier than usual this week so I can be sure to prioritize my own time away.
You can find more about the episode below. And, if you prefer to listen to it on the go, you can find it on Apple, Spotify, or on the Humans Leading podcast homepage.
Today’s episode is called “You Can Do Anything, Not Everything” which is a nod to a recent reminder I’ve had to give myself as I discovered (again) that I’m working too much.
If you’ve ever experienced (or are currently experiencing) working too much, this episode is for you.
As an ambitious person, it's understandable to find yourself feeling overworked and possibly overwhelmed related to taking on too many responsibilities and having competing priorities. It's easy to lose track of yourself, your values, and your own needs in the process, and this often contributes to burnout.
This episode will help you to begin to identify ways that you might take one-degree turns toward the life you'd rather be living.
If you are looking for other episodes of the podcast, you can find them on your favorite platform or here.
In Season 2 of the podcast (coming soon!), I have several upcoming guest episodes that I think you’ll enjoy featuring experts in leadership and wellbeing.
And I’m looking for other guests. If you have expertise in wellness, burnout, or any other topics relevant to ambitious women looking to live less stressed, more satisfying lives, reach out via direct message or email to pitch yourself: lifeandpicu@gmail.com. I’m always on the lookout for great people to have a conversation with.
